Wildung and Mathison master Viking mains

By Ray Beste
Alexandria, Mn (June 19th, 2010) - Jeff Wildung held off a late surge from Ricky Weiss to score the WISSOTA Late Model feature win Saturday night at Viking Speedway. Dale Mathison continued his hot streak reigning victorious in the WISSOTA Modified division while Cory Tammen picked up the win in the WISSOTA Super Stock A-main. Travis Saurer dominated the WISSOTA Midwest Modified A-main with Jason Babcock taking top honors in the Florian Sprinzel Memorial WISSOTA Street Stock finale. Fans, drivers, crew members, and sponsors convened once again at the big 1/2 mile for some great Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing, Viking Speedway style.

Although Villard, Mn driver Brady Gerdes would lead lap one, it was Travis Saurer taking the lead and ultimately the win on lap two. Gerdes was left to do battle with 22nd starter Matt Weisman for the second spot. Weisman took over the spot on the final lap. Brett Hoium and William Lund rounded out the top five running order for the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division. Heat race wins went to Jason Hoffman, Saurer, Justin Mackedanz, and Darrin Braaten.

Travis Berends took the lead on lap one of the WISSOTA Street Stock A-main. Berends look to be the car to beat early on before Jason Babcock made his way to the front from his eighth starting position. Babcock made the final pass for the lead on lap five with Berends settling into second. Out front it was Babcock taking the win for the second consecutive year. Andrew Bangsund came home in the third spot ahead of Ryan Buer and Justin Vogel.

The WISSOTA Super Stock A-main was dominated by Clara City, MN product Cory Tammen. Tammen took the lead on lap six and was never seriously challenge the rest of the way. The story of the event, however, was 18th starter Mike Peterson. The Dawson, Mn native twisted and contorted his #1 machine around the cushion moving up 15 spots during the 20-lap A-main coming home third. In the end it was Tammen followed by Jeff Crouse, Peterson, Ron Host, and Mike Jans.

Although Dale Mathison did lead the first circuit, he led the rest picking up a mighty impressive win during WISSOTA Modified action at the big 1/2 mile. The story of the race, however, was young canadian racer Shane Edgington. Edgington moved from his seventh row starting position all the way up to fourth at the line. Out front it was Mathison followed to the line by Dennis Bitzan, Jason Thoennes, Edgington, and Nate Heinrich.

Forada, Mn Rick Nelson looked as if he may play the role of spoiler leading the first eight laps of the WISSOTA Late Model A-main. Nelson pedaled his #12 machine around the top side of the speedway with eighth starter Jeff Wildung on the move. Wildung would swipe the lead from Nelson on lap nine never looking back on his way to victory. Ricky Weiss rallied from his ninth starting position to finish second with Jeff Hinkemeyer third, Nelson fourth and Don Shaw fifth. Shaw and Wildung each tallied heat race wins earlier in the show for the WISSOTA Late Models.

Join us once again this Saturday night for some more great Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing. Races start each and every Saturday night at 5:30.
