Engebretson impressive in Viking Mods

By Ray Beste
Alexandria, MN (May 22nd, 2010) – Zach Johnson ended another great run winning the WISSOTA Late Model A-main Saturday night at Viking Speedway. Terry Engebretson took his first win of the year in the WISSOTA Modified division while Jeff Crouse piloted his #29 WISSOTA Super Stock to a victory in that division's A-main. Travis Saurer (WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds) and Travis Berends (WISSOTA Street Stocks) each collected feature wins as well during week five action at the big high speedway 1/2 mile.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modified A-main featured a great battle between Travis Saurer and Jason Hoffman. Randy Laage led early before the front duo was able to sneak by running one, two in the process. Saurer was able to make the pass with five laps remaining collecting his second win in as many weeks. Twelfth starter Brian Haben had a great run moving up nine positions to finish third ahead of Dustin Bitzan and Matt Weisman. Randy Laage, Brendan Blascyk, Weisman and Hoffman took the heat race wins earlier in the evening for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds while Justin Mackedanz reigned victorious in the division's lone B-main.

The WISSOTA Super Stock A-main featured a dominating performance by the #29 of Jeff Crouse. Crouse moved to the extreme high side of the speedway early on and was able to move by Todd Carter and Larry Lund on his way to victory. Seventh starter Jeff Flaten had a great run pressuring Crouse in the ladder stages of the event picking up a second place finish in the process. Cory Tammen and Larry Lund battled for the third spot for nearly the second half of the race with Tammen ultimately winning the battle while Todd Carter rounded out the top five running order. Flaten and Carter each garnered a heat race wins earlier in the evening for the WISSOTA Supers.

Although Dennis Bitzan stole the lead on lap four of the WISSOTA Modified A-main, Terry Engebretson to able to take it back on lap eight winning the division's feature event in the process. Fifth starter Scot Danzeisen moved up two positions from his third row starting spot to finish third with Danny Bayer and Jason Thoennes rounding out the top five. Back in the pack, Glenwood, MN driver Jake Wildman had a great run coming from his 22nd starting position to finish 11th. The 24-car A-main was split into three heat races which were won by Bitzan, Engebretson, and Dale Mathison.

Jeff Hinkemeyer took the lead on lap one of the WISSOTA Late Model finale. Hinkemeyer ran a steady line and was scored the leader at the conclusion of the first lap. Hinkemeyer held the advantage until Ricky Weiss used the bottom of the speedway to get by for the lead on lap four. Row four starters Zach Johnson and Jeff Wildung wasted little time in their onslaught toward the front with Johnson moving into second on lap nine. Johnson was able to complete the pass for the lead with the cross flags showing while Wildung was left to do battle with Weiss for second. The duo traded the position several times with Wildung grabbing the advantage with three laps remaining. Out front it was all Johnson picking up the feature win. Wildung has another great on his birthday in the second spot with Weiss third, Shawn Kirwin fourth, and Bismarck's Jeremy Keller fifth.

Viking Speedway will host a double-header once again this weekend with racing taking place Saturday and Sunday. Races start each night at 5:30 pm. For more information log onto vikingspeedway.net
