News faces and old highlight Viking mains

Alexandria, Mn (August 8th, 2009) - WISSOTA Street Stock rookie Justin Tammen notched his first career win by shocking the crowd Saturday night at Viking Speedway. Matt Suckow tallied his first Viking Speedway checkers of the season as well while Jeff Crouse reigned victorious in the WISSOTA Super Stock A-main. Craig Christiansen returned to victory lane for the first time since 2006 with Jeff Hinkemeyer taking top honors in the WISSOTA Late Model finale. Fans, pit crew members and drivers alike convened once again at the 1/2 high banks for some great Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing Saturday night at Viking.

The aforementioned Matt Suckow took the lead from his third start spot early on while the field sized up behind him. Suckow wasted little time and was scored the leader at the conclusion of the first lap. Cale and Austin Arneson had a great battle for the second position during the 15-lap affair with Cale ultimately holding the spot. Josh Thoennes and tenth starting Jeremy Kerzman each moved forward several positions as they battled for the fifth spot during the ladder stages of the event. In the end it was Suckow scoring his first Viking Speedway victory of the season ahead of Cale Arneson, Austin Arneson, Thoennes and Kerzman.

Tammen bolted from his sixth starting spot through the field into second on the first lap as Chris Winter took the lead during the WISSOTA Street Stock feature event. Winter led early on before breaking something in the front end on lap three. That would hand the lead over to Tammen. Cory Tammen, Justin's older brother, settled into second spot while Andrew Bangsund began his march toward the front. Bangsund moved up seven positions in the event's 12-laps ending a great run in the seventh spot. On the final trip around Tammen was bolted out front as he went to score his first ever WISSOTA Street Stock feature event. Justin was joined in the top five by his brother Cory, James Wall, Justin Vogel and Jordan Tollakson. Rick Sahli and Travis Berends each scored heat race wins for the WISSOTA Street Stock division.

Jeff Crouse took the lead on lap five and never looked back on the way to his second Viking Speedway WISSOTA Super Stock win of the season. Todd Carter applied heavy pressure and the 20th and final lap but Crouse was declared the winner tallying his second win of the 2009 season. The second spot was taken by 15th starter Cory Tammen who moved up thirteen spots in the 20-lap affair followed by Jeff Kluver, Jeff Flaten and Big Stone City, SD driver Steve Weber. Carter was victorious in heat one with Don Shaw wheeling his machine to the checkers in heat two.

One of the best in the business picked up his first Viking Speedway victory since 2006. New London, Mn driver Craig Christiansen dropped into town Saturday night scoring the win leading wire to wire. Christiansen was pressured early on by Danny Bayer. Bayer, however, cut the right front tire down which eliminated his chances at a victory. Veteran Jay McDonald wheeled his #96 machine around the speedway at rapid pace picking up the second spot ahead of 2008 WISSOTA Modified track champion Dennis Bitzan. Tenth starter Nate Heinrich moved into the fourth spot with four laps remaining with Jason Thoennes rounding out the top five. Christiansen, Bitzan and Bayer each tallied a heat race victory earlier in the evening for the WISSOTA Modifieds.

Jeff Hinkemeyer tallied the win during action in the 20-lap WISSOTA Late Model A-main. Dave Tyrchniewicz led early and often before slipping over the turn three banking handing the lead over to Hinkemeyer. Jeff Wildung applied some pressure in the ladder stages of the event but was not enough to deny Hinkemeyer the victory. Out front it was Hinkemeyer being followed to the line by Wildung, Zach Johnson, Don Shaw and Tyrchniewicz. Tyrchniewicz and Hinkemeyer each scored preliminary wins earlier in the evening.

Join us once again this Saturday night for some great Amsoil Dirt Track Series Racing. The Heart Pounding, High Flying 1/2 mile get it's start each and every Saturday night at 5:30. For more information log onto vikingspeedway.net
