Fireworks arrive late at Viking

Alexandria, Mn (July 7th, 2009) - Pat Doar blasted off from his front row starting spot leading all 40-laps picking up the win during Dart Challenge Series action Tuesday night at Viking Speedway. Marshal Tofte scored his first ever Viking Speedway win in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division while Don Shaw picked up yet another impressive win in the WISSOTA Super Stock division. Fans in the grandstands were treated to some great Amsoil Dirt Track Series action which kicked off the Dart Challenge Series swing through Central Minnesota as well as the Governor's Ethanol Challenge.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature began with Tofte taking the lead. The front runners Tofte, Brock Gronwold and Brandon Nelson ran out front for the first fifteen laps before the caution waved over the speedway for Nelson who expired a motor in turn two. That would stack up the field two by two behind Tofte. On the restart, Tyler Limoges made a great move sling-shotting by Ronnie Rihn and Gronwold heading into turn one. The yellow waved once again at the conclusion of the lap which put Limoges and Shane Sabraski on the backside of Tofte. The green flag dropped over the field once again. Limoges headed for the top shelf once again and blasted by Sabraski for the second spot as they raced down the backstretch. They completed one more lap which set up a three lap dash to the finish. This time Sabraski would take advantage of the restart and he grabbed the second spot from Limoges as they raced off of turn two. Back in traffic the #14x of Jeremy Kerzman began his march toward the front. Kerzman disposed of nine drivers in the 20-lap affair ending a great run in seventh. In the end it was Tofte leading wire to wire scoring his first ever Ethanol Tour victory. Sabraski settled for second ahead of Limoges, Brandon Davis and Gronwold. Rihn, Nelson, Limoges and Gronwold each scored heat race wins while Josh Thoennes was victorious in the division's lone B-main.
The 40-lap A-main for the Dart Challenge Series Late Model competitors began with Pat Doar taking the lead. Adam Hensel worked the backside of Doar early on before Doar cruised out to a sizable advantage. After one early caution the remaining 38 laps went off without another yellow. Back in traffic the two cars that were on the move were Jeff Wildung and Lance Mathees. Wildung worked the top side on his way to the front with Mathees working the middle. At the conclusion of the race Wildung found himself in the fourth spot after starting 22nd while Mathees moved up thirteen positions finishing sixth. Out front, however, it was Doar scoring the win in dominating fashion. Steve Laursen had a great run moving up to take second ahead of Brad Seng, Wildung and Zach Johnson. Hensel, Todd Frank, Dave Zimmerman and Jeff Hinkemeyer all scored heat race wins while Doar was victorious in Debbie's Dash. Mathees and Wildung each punched their tickets to the A-main scoring victories in B-main action earlier in the program.
The WISSOTA Super Stock finale was dominated by Ham Lake, Mn driver Shaw. Shaw stole the lead from Don Eischens near the midway point of the race and went on to score the win. Eischens had another steady run coming home second ahead of sixth starting Dave Mass. Larry Lund moved up eight positions during the duration of the event finishing fourth ahead of row seven starter Jon Stepan. The final running order included: Shaw, Eischens, Mass, Lund and Stepan. Jeff Crouse, Jason Vejtruba and Eischens all tallied heat race wins for the WISSOTA Super Stock division.
