Capacity crowd treated to great Late Model Action at Viking

Alexandria, Mn (May 23rd, 2009) - After picking a win Friday night at Princeton Speedway, Dale Mathison made it his second win in as many nights by picking up the win in the WISSOTA Modified division Saturday night at Viking Speedway. Matt Aukland outlasted a great group of 25 WISSOTA/NLRA Late Models to score the victory in that division's A-main while Cory Tammen picked up the win in the WISSOTA Super Stock finale. Travis Saurer (WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds) and Henry Peters (WISSOTA Street Stocks) were victorious as well during Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing at the big 1/2 mile in Alexandria, Mn.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature was dominated by Elizabeth, Mn driver Saurer. He moved to the lead on lap three and was never seriously challenged during the division's 15-lap main event. Brock Gronwold made some awesome moves moving from his eighteenth starting spot up to second at the line. Jeremy Kerzman, Troy Berends and Shawn Olson joined Saurer in the top five finishing order. Heat race wins were collected by Saurer, Olson, Berends, John Henkemeyer and Josh "Buzz Muzik. The division's two b-main winners included Brian Haben and Brendan Blascyk.
The WISSOTA Street Stock A-main was a great one with three and four wide action being seen all over the speedway. In the end Morten, MB driver Henry Peters outlasted WISSOTA Street Stock rookie Justin Tammen by a half of a car length to pick up his first ever Viking Speedway victory. Tammen continues to impress holding the second spot in the process with Travis Berends, Jason Babcock and Chris Winter rounding out the top five. Babcock and Winter each collected heat race wins earlier in the evening for the WISSOTA Street Stock division.
Cory Tammen took the lead on lap three and never looked back on his way to picking up his first ever Viking Speedway WISSOTA Super Stock victory. The division's A-main was halted several times by cautions before Tammen eventually picked up the win. Jeff Flaten had his best run to date finishing second ahead of Huron, SD traveler Kip Myers. Todd Carter continued his string of consisten finishes in fourth followed by Cold Spring, Mn driver Don Eischens. Larry Lund, Aaron Leininger, Flaten and Myers all scored heat race wins with Jeff Crouse reigning victorious in the division's lone B-main.
Dave Storck took the lead early on in the WISSOTA Modified finale. Storck would lead until lap four when Dale Mathison sneaked by on the bottom as the field filed off of turn two. Mathison was able to stretch his lead from that point on and went on to score the might impressive victory. Storck had his best run of the season thus far finishing in the second spot with Andy Gordon, Dallas Gulbrandson and Scott Gilbertson rounding out the top five. Mathison, Travis Saurer, Jason Thoennes and Gilbertson each picked up a heat race win earlier in the program for the WISSOTA Modifieds.
Although Rick Schroeder led the most amount of laps it was Matt Aukland scoring the win in the WISSOTA/NLRA A-main. Aukland took the lead from Schroeder with seven laps remaining and stretched his advantage in the end. Ninth starter Marshall Fegers moved through nicely to finish second with Mike Johnson, Kerry Hanson and Shawn Kirwin also members of the top five. Jeff Wildung, Kirwin and Tim Jodsaas all recorded heat race victories for the WISSOTA/NLRA Late Models.
